Bottled Water Sales
Since the September 11 terrorist attacks, bottled water sales have skyrocketed. Consumers, concerned about the vulnerability of municipal water sources and increased incidences of bio-terrorism, have been electing to buy bottled water for safety reasons, as well as for emergency supply concerns. The initial surge of bottled water sales was on the day of the attacks (along with food and gasoline cans, as reported by Wal Mart stores) but within a day or so the bottled water sales surge stopped. However, bulk water (1 & 2 1/2 gallon bottles) bottled water sales in September in the Northeast went up 30-40 percent for at least one bottler. There has also been an increase of bottled water sales in Florida.
